I had the pleasure and privilege to test the new KT Super K version 2 for a couple of sessions in Tarifa. Both the 60 and 80 liters, in the normal construction. It will also come in an even lighter and stiffer Pro version. I think a short review is sufficient, as these boards are really good.
For the version 2 they changed a lot compared to the version 1! Besides having two constructions, the Pro version being lighter and stiffer, and more sizes. They changed the whole shape. They are now shorter, less wide and the bottom shape is completely different.
On version one, the bottom nose shape, looked like the hole of a boat. Very round and it would help you make speeds very fast. But as mentioned in my comparison review with the Drifter 4. It would also tent to stick to the water when conditions would get choppy. That’s why I really only preferred this board in light wind conditions. And the Drifter 4 in most other conditions. The v1 also had the step bottom design on it. On the version 2 they changed that. It is has a nice long flat section proving stability and make more speed. This moves in to some tail rocker behind the far forward foil tracks and the big round nose has been replaced by something…. Mateo knows the name?
Towards the rails the board a good bevel can be found going along the whole board. This helps preventing the board to stick to the water, also when in an angle.
How the v2 behaves on the water
The Super K still makes speed very easily, but now it also does do this very well in more choppy waters. What I did not like on the version 1, cannot be found on the version 2.
It has become a lot more narrow, making the board less stable when getting on it. It is certainly not a beginners board. To counter the less stable start, I would recommend choosing a board that has slightly more volume compared to a non-midlenght board you would otherwise choose. About 10-15 liters more. The good thing is that volume isn’t in the way as much. These boards have much better aerodynamics. The wind won’t have as much effect on the board. I have ridden the 80L Super quite a bit. Also in strong powered up 5.0 sessions, and everything still felt good. I didn’t feel the need to downsize as much. Also riding waves everything felt natural. I only did not feel like jumping this board. For the 60l this felt more appealing. The 60l would still help me make enough speed to get a smaller foil like the Nomad 700 on foil quickly.
The less width will really appeal to more experienced riders that really want to push hard on their foils, making tighter turns possible.
If you still prefer a more stable board, that also get’s you on foil quick. I would still advice the KT Drifter 4 of the new Super K boards.
Conclusion
The very nice shape a graphics of this board really invites you to go and try it. The adapted shape will definitely appeal to more experienced riders.Where intermediate riders can get away with a bit more volume. As things move fast in foiling, they already came out with the new Super K a bit faster then normally. KT has some of the best boards out there and they definitely want to stay on top.
